Ritual Wear: Creating a Head Wreath

Head wreaths are decorative items worn during various events in a Pagan's life. These can range from Sabbat celebrations, handfastings, "Wiccanings", Pagan Pride events, etc.

These can be rather easy to make depending on the items you choose to use. Fresh flowers can pose a slight challenge in making head wreaths as the stems are not as bendable as silk flowers, however the pros can outweigh the cons when it comes to using fresh flowers, as the fragrances and beauty of the flowers can be wonderful.

To make your own head wreath, gather the following items:
-Your choice of flowers (either silk or real)
-Ribbon (again, your choice in color)
-Any beads, other flowers, decorations you wish to put on your ribbons.

You take a gathering of flowers (the number can depend on how big you want to make the wreath and the type of flowers you choose to use, as stems can vary in length and width), and wrap the stems around each other, arranging the flowers so they sit outside the "circlet". Continue wrapping the stems until the circle is completed. Affix ribbons of various colors (you can add colors with specific meanings if you wish, if you plan on wearing the wreath for specific occasions), feathers, beads, etc and your head wreath is complete.

You can also make a head wreath that will last forever out of silken flowers and plastic vines and ivy. Take a gathering of plastic ivy/vines and make them into a circle. Secure them with either some wire or ribbon. Take silk or fake flowers and wrap the wires around the circled ivy/vines in an appealing way. Affix ribbons, beads, feathers, etc to the wreath and your wreath is completed and ready to wear.
